Our Top Picks for Skiing in Europe

Europe offers some of the best skiing in the world. The dramatic scenery, great snow, amazing food, picturesque villages, and of course there’s the après ski. We’ve pulled together a list of our favourite spots that are sure to make your next ski holiday an unforgettable experience.

Switzerland

The Swiss resorts offer some of the most impressive ski runs, dramatic scenery and best après ski, but it’s no secret they’re pricey. There are plenty of resorts to cater for all; St Moritz for the glitz and glamour, Zermatt for the scenic skiing, Laax for beginners and families and of course Davos, one of the most famous Swiss ski resorts.

France

Home to Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc, Chamonix is not for the faint hearted. It offers some of the most extreme terrain in Europe and attracts hard-core skiers worldwide. The varied terrain also caters for the beginners and the intermediates with challenging red runs, especially for those confident and experienced enough to try the 20km off-piste ‘Vallee Blanche’ for a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Austria

The picturesque villages, fantastic après ski and great hospitality are just a few reasons why we rate skiing in Austria. It also caters to all from beginners to the experienced, partygoers and families, plus it usually costs a lot less than the popular resorts in the French and Swiss Alps. A few of our favourite resorts include St Anton, Kitzbuhel, Innsbruck and Zell am See-Kaprun.

Bulgaria

While Bulgaria may not immediately spring to mind as a skiing destination, it’s definitely worth considering, especially for beginners and intermediates. It’s great for young families and it won’t break the bank. Borovets and Bansko are a couple of the more well-known resorts.

Romania

Poiana Brasov, Romania’s largest and most popular ski resort, has had a revamp in recent years with serious money going into new slopes and lifts. The 12 slopes are a great option for beginners and intermediates. Plus Bran Castle, otherwise known to us as Dracula’s Castle, is a short drive away and well worth a visit.
