Day 2: Bucharest - Sinaia - Predeal
This morning we drive to Sinaia where we visit Peles Castle, the summer residence of the royal family. In 1866, the first King of the Hohenzollern family came to Romania and decided to build a castle in Sinaia on the banks of the Peles brook in the German Renaissance, so that it would remind him of his home country. Not far away is the monastery of Sinaia, built by Orthodox monks who came from the Sinaia Peninsula. Afterwards, we continue our drive to the hotel in Predeal, where you will have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 3: Predeal - Bran - Râșnov - Prejmer - Harman - Predeal
This morning we drive to Bran where we find Dracula's Castle. The tower and shooting range rich Höhenburg was built in the 14th century and served the inhabitants of nearby Brasov as part of its protective belt against the Ottomans. The romantic castle was the inter-war residence of Romanian Queen Maria and is now a museum. We also visit the Citadel of Râșnov. The peasant castle was built in 1215 by the Teutonic Knight's order on a hill (ca.150m). It was important for the farmers to have a large number of houses, stables and a small church. The castle has ten towers and is bounded by an earth wall. We continue in the afternoon where we will see two important churches from Burzenland - Prejmer and Harman, before returning to Predeal for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 4: Predeal - Sibiu - Predeal
Our day trip today is to Sibiu. Sibiu is known as a city of culture, characterised by the centuries-old traditions of different races, which was also one of the main reasons for the appointment to the European Capital of Culture in 2007. Most of the buildings, squares, towers and basements of the city are a testimony to a history that dates back a century and a half when German-speaking settlers founded the town. You will get to know the Big and Small Ring, with various markets and craft houses, the Brukenthal Palace and the Cathedrals. The Sibiu Lutheran Cathedral was built in the 14th century on the location of another 12th-century church. For three centuries it served as a burial place for the mayors, earls and other personalities from Sibiu. This practice was banned in 1796 but one exception was made in 1803 when baron Samuel von Brukenthal was laid to rest in the crypt. We also see the evangelical town parish church from Huet Square, where the son of Dracula is buried. Enjoy your dinner and overnight in Predeal.
Day 5: Predeal - Brașov - Predeal
Today we travel to Brașov. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Knights of the Teutonic Order and was for centuries an economic and intellectual centre of the Transylvanian Saxons, who constitute a majority of the population until the 19th century. In the city centre, you will see the main attractions including the Black Church with her Buchholz organ, (interior visit), the medieval city walls of the historic Old Town with its stylish late medieval town houses, the Town Hall Square, the unique Schnurr alley Katherinentor and the small hidden Orthodox Church in Brasov centre. You will have dinner and stay overnight in Predeal.
Day 6: Predeal - Sighisoara - Predeal
This morning our day trip is to the city of Sighisoara. Sighisoara is the best preserved, still inhabited early medieval city in Europe and is therefore a famous historical destination, which is also included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage sites. The most important landmark of Sighisoara is the 64 metre high Clock Tower, built in 1556 and home to a local museum. The historic centre of Sighisoara is surrounded by fortifications and towers built in the 12th century Citadel of Saxony. There is also a small arms museum and a torture gallery. You will also visit the birthplace of Prince Dracula. Enjoy your dinner and overnight stay again in Predeal.
Day 7: Predeal - Bucharest
