Day 2 (Tuesday) Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning is free to explore the wonders that this vibrant city has to offer. In the afternoon, enjoy a Madrid panoramic city tour, where we explore the medieval origins of the city, like the Arabic fortress at the Barrio de la Morería, characterised by the antiquity of its buildings. We then continue with a drive through the courtesan district of the Hapsburgs characterised by Phillip II and his Renaissance and Baroque style buildings, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa; the Madrid of the Bourbons and the complex town planning schemes of Charles III, the Royal Palace, Cibeles and Neptuno Fountains and the Puerta de Alcalá. We admire the XIX C. works such as the Prado Museum. We continue to the contemporary Madrid with areas such as the Gran Vía, Castellana, the district of Salamanca, Plaza Castilla and Parque del Oeste before travelling through the commercial and financial zones of modern Madrid, with its emblematic Las Ventas Bullring and the Santiago Bernabéu Football Stadium. A stop will be made at the famous “Hard Rock Café” to enjoy a free drink. Overnight in Madrid.
Day 3 (Wednesday) Madrid - Trujillo - Lisbon
Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the Julia Travel bus terminal, located in the underground parking of the Plaza de Oriente. Departure will be at 08:30 a.m. Today we drive westbound towards the region of Extremadura, with a relaxing drive to Trujillo, hometown of many discoverers of the new world. There will be free time to explore the beautiful and monumental Plaza Mayor before we continue on through Portuguese soil along the Alentejo plains via historic sites such as Elvas, Estremoz and Setubal. Arrive over the impressive bridge 25th April to Lisbon, capital city of Portugal. Overnight in Lisbon.
Optional night tour to attend a Fado show, with typical Portuguese songs and music.
Day 4 (Thursday) Lisbon
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning we enjoy a sightseeing tour of the ancient Olissipo and a drive through its main squares and avenues. We then continue our driver to Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Coach Museum, Monument to the Discoverers, Marquis of Pombal Square and Liberty Avenue. This afternoon is at leisure for you to catch the nostalgic corners of the Alfama Quarter, the old city gathered next to its Castle, with old buildings nested in narrow twisting “Ruas” full of coloured housing the genuine “Taberna's” where Fado sounds echo out as a missing past. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 5 (Friday) Lisbon - Obidos - Alcobaca - Nazare - Batalha - Fatima
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we drive northland, where we arrive to our first point of interest: the beautiful walled town of Óbidos, with its picturesque streets and the Pousada do Castelo. We continue to Alcobaça to visit a 12th century church containing the tombs of Pablo and Inês de Castro, followed by a visit to the picturesque fishing village of Nazaré. Weather permitting, we will continue to the Sitio to have a panoramic view of the beach and the village. This afternoon we will visit the Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline style considered a World Heritage place by UNESCO. Continue to Fátima. Overnight in Fátima.
Day 6 (Saturday) Fatima - Lisbon
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a day at your leisure for activities of a personal nature in Fátima, centre of the Christian faith and World Pilgrims Sanctuary, with its impressive Basilica and Cova da Iria where the Virgin Mary appeared. The church where the tombstones of Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco are located and the Chapel of Apparitions, heart of the shrine. At the end of the day we return to Lisbon through the colourful farming region. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 7 (Sunday) Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel. Early departure at 07:30 am for Caceres, considered a World Heritage place because of the city's blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. We take a walk through its Plaza Mayor and the Old Town with its famous Medieval Quarter before continuing onto Madrid. Overnight in Madrid.
Day 8: (Monday) Madrid
After breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to the airport where we will wish you a pleasant and safe your onward journey.
